Colombo, May 15 (BAN) : 65 year old blind man, owner of 3 houses and a bank account containing Rs. 500,000 after begging on trains for 25 years, was arrested by Railway Security Service.
Two of the houses were given as dowries to his two daughters, he told the authorities, while the third one was going to be rented out. On the day he was arrested, the man had Rs. 4000 on him that he had collected between the Gampaha-colombo Fort Railway stations.
The widower, a resident on Gampaha is the father of two married daughters. He explained that he earns Rs. 150,000 a month, largely owing to the fact that he is blind, calling it a blessing in disguise.
He also revealed that his daughters know that he begs in the railway station. When his daughter heard that he was arrested by the Railway authorities, she arrived in her car to the Railway Security Headquarters to get him.
Inquiries were conducted on the orders of Superintendent of Railway Security Anura Premratna by Assistant Superintendent of Railway Security M.P Jayanatha.
