Singapore will aid drug prevention programmes in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka:Technical knowledge which will aid the narcotic prevention program in Singapore has been initiated by President Maithripala Sirisena, his Media Division said.

A meeting between the President, Singaporean Minister Desmond Lee and officials from the department of drug prevention took place in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel during last week. It has been agreed that Singapore will extend its resources to help aid programmes to prevent and eliminate illegal drugs in Sri Lanka.   

A specialized team of Singaporean officials will shortly be arriving in Sri Lanka to assist the current program run by the Sri Lankan government, as well as help the country in it’s fight against drug smuggling.

Drug smuggling and misuse has become an urgent problem in Sri Lanka, and to honor and commend the many police officers who dedicate their time to prevent drug smuggling, and control and eradicate drugs, the President has organized an event in which they will be presented Presidential Awards next week.
