Colombo, Jan 22 (BAN/ AD): President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has issued a special gazette notification calling Lankan armed forces to maintain public order in all 25 districts. Notification is issued tasking all members of the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy and the Sri Lanka Air Force to maintain public order in the 25 districts of the country and the territorial water adjacent to the coastal districts effective from today (22).
In accordance with the powers vested upon the President by Section 12 of the Public Security Ordinance (Chapter 40) notification has been issued.
Accordingly, Armed Forces personnel are deployed for security in administrative districts of Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Galle, Matara, Hambantota, Jaffna, Mannar, Mullaitivu, Batticaloa, Ampara, Trincomalee and Puttalam and the territorial water adjacent to such Districts. In addition, the administrative districts of Kandy, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, Kilinochchi, Vavuniya, Kurunegala, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Badulla, Moneragala, Ratnapura and Kegalle are areas specified for the maintenance of public order by the Armed Forces personnel.
