Colombo, Jun 4 (BAN/CD): A suspect impersonating Sri Lankan Army Intelligence was arrested by the STF at Soysapura in Moratuwa on June 1.
The suspect, who has been identified as Mohammed Nissar Imran, alias John Walk , had allegedly impersonated a major from the SLA.
A mobile phone, two cameras, a WIFI drone, two laptops, a sword and three army t-shirts were recovered from the suspect by the STF.
Director Intelligence SP Raththepitiya received a tip-off from the general public, after which a team of the STF Organised Crimes arrested the suspect.
Investigations have revealed that the suspect is a 26-year-old involved in extremist activities under different names, police said.
Photographs of the Shangri La, Colombo taken at 9.15 am, few hours before the bomb attack on 21 April have been recovered from one of the cameras.
According to the STF, the suspect was a resident of Akkaraipattu and married to a Christian woman to whom he did not disclose his real identity.
STF added that he would be handed over to the Organised Crime Division for investigation after being detained.
Japanese man caught with foreign currency
38 years old Japanese man was arrested while attempting to leave the country at Bandarnaike Airport with foreign currency amounting 5 million.
Sunil Jayaratne, Additional Director of Customs, said that the man works in a development project in Sri Lanka and only declared 1,000 US dollars on his departure.
5 million Japanese Yen(Rs. 81,30,500) was recovered from the man’s luggage.
