Colombo, Dec 31 (BAN/ AD): Former chairman of Sri Lanka Pharmaceutical Corporation Mohamed Rumie has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with the ‘white van’ news conference, after he surrendered to the CID.
Ms. Nishara Jayaratne the coordinating officer of the Attorney General has confirmed that Mohamed Rumie surrendered to the CID.
Mohamed Rumie is alleged to have given money to the two suspects, who were arrested previously and remanded in connection with the incident. The two suspects arrested are Athula Sanjeewa Madanayake and Anthony Douglas Fernando.
They were arrested for giving false information regarding the white van abductions during a press conference held with former minister Rajitha Senaratne during the last presidential election.
