Colombo, Dec 30 (BAN/ AD): Garnier Banister Francis local staff of Swiss embassy has been released on bail. She was arrested and remanded on charge of making false statements. She has been granted conditional bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.
Garnier Banister Francis had claimed that she had been abducted and threatened to disclose “embassy-related information” on November 25, a day after a high ranking police official fled to Switzerland seeking asylum.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne ordered that the suspect be released on two personal bails of Rs. 500,000 each. The Magistrate ordered to produce the Grama Niladhari Certificates confirming the residence of the guarantors and the suspect to the court.
She has been restricted from travelling abroad and ordered to hand deposit the passport to the court. Court also ordered a private telephone company to provide the relevant reports requested by the CID.
Swiss Embassy local staffer Garnier Banister Francis defended by Attorney-at-law Upul Kumarapperuma, who told court that his client’s three children and her mother had gone to Singapore for a vacation and they will return before the start of the school year.
