Colombo, Oct 16 (BAN/ AD): On Thursday 3rd International airport of Sri Lanka will be opened in Jaffna by President Maithripala Sirisena. Other dignitaries attending the opening ceremony are Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Arjuna Ranatunga and High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
After inauguration first flight is scheduled to arrive at Jaffna International Airport from Chennai tomorrow morning. India’s Alliance Air made a successful test flight to the upgraded former military airport yesterday. Minister Ranatunga has made an observation tour of the airport today.
This airport will facilitate people in the North to travel to South India without going to the main international airport in Katunayake. Soon flights from Jaffna to Maldives and Malaysia will be operational. Daily flight operations are scheduled to begin in November.
