Colombo, June 25 (BAN/ AD): Travel restriction imposed by the United States has relaxed to Level 2. Restrictions were placed after the April 21 suicide bomb attacks on several churches and hotels which killed 260 people and injured several.
Immediately after attacks Level 3 travel advisory was issued on April 26, according to which American citizens were asked to reconsider traveling to Sri Lanka “due to serious risks to safety and security”. Now this has been downgraded to Level 2 advising U.S. citizens to “exercise increased caution”.
As per revised advisory “Terrorists may attack with little or no warning, targeting tourist locations, transportation hubs, markets, shopping malls, government facilities, hotels, clubs, restaurants, places of worship, parks, major sporting and cultural events, educational institutions, airports, hospitals, and other public areas.”
